Welcome!

The Canton Performing Arts Department is pleased to host the 2019 Southeast District MMEA Senior Festival. Included with this information packet you will find a rehearsal schedule, information on meals and snacks, how to purchase tickets and download recordings, and the address and general directions to Canton High School. In case of emergency during the festival we can be reached at 781-821-5050. Please direct all other questions to the music directors at your own school. We hope that everyone enjoys the festival!

Registration

Registration will take place in the main lobby of Canton High School near the gym and main office, (there will be students showing you the way) beginning on January 11th at 8:15am and ending at 9:00am. Only chaperones may register participating students. Students should proceed directly to their rehearsal sites. Staff responsibility forms and designated chaperone forms must be completed and handed in before students can be officially registered.

Upon arrival on Friday, instrumentalists should leave cases in the auditorium seating area.

Students are expected to be warmed up and ready to begin rehearsal (not arrive) promptly at 9:00am in the following locations all within Canton High School.

Chorus: Upstairs Library

Band: Auditorium Stage

Orchestra: Gymnasium

Jazz Band: Room 104 behind the auditorium

Percussion Ensemble: Room 102 behind the auditorium

*As per ruling of the Secondary School Principals’ Association, no student participating in this Festival is permitted to drive to or from the Festival.

Meals

Students must bring their own meals on both days, meals will not be provided.  Concessions will be available for purchase during meals and breaks in the auditorium lobby.

Directors’ lunch will be served each day in the Teacher’s Cafeteria off of the main cafeteria.

Buses and Parking

To avoid normal school day traffic, buses should arrive no earlier that 8:15am. Buses should drop students off at the Rodman circle. We will have students and signs to help.

Chaperones and students not traveling by bus should use the CHS main entrance.

Parking: After drop-off buses should leave the school site and can park at the pequitside (79 Pleasant St, Canton, MA 02021) parking lot or at the local shopping center (605 Washington St Canton, MA 02021). All cars driven to the site should park in the Rodman lot with overflow in the student lot.

Nurse

There will be NO nurse on site.

Cancellation

In the event of inclement weather schools will be notified via email, the Southeast website, and Facebook with instructions regarding the music festival.

Pre-concert announcements begin 10 minutes prior to the performance time. We recommend you inform guests that they do not need to arrive extremely early and stand in the lobby. There should be plenty of available seating. Canton High School has over 800 seats with excellent visibility and acoustics.

Ticket sales will not be limited per student.

Tickets are $10.00 please make checks are payable to SEMMEA.  Tickets will be sold in advance and at the door. We also accept Credit and Debit Cards at the door via PayPal.

Recording

Audio recording of the concert will be available for download on the Southeast District Website wwww.semmea.org. This concert is being professionally recorded and will be available for download.  Notification of concert download will be announced to directors after to the concert.

Preparation

All students are responsible for preparing their music before arriving at the Festival.  Percussionists should bring their own sticks, mallets, etc. Other instrumentalists should have extra reeds, valve oil, strings, rosin, etc.  Instrumentalists SHOULD bring a music stand (be sure to put your name on your stand).  Everyone should have their music folder and a pencil at all rehearsals.  The music will be collected after the concert.

General Rules

  • Students must read the following rules & regulations concerning the festival.  Direct any questions to your own director or performing group manager.
  • Questions about attire should be directed to the group’s manager, whose contact information can be found on the website
  • Students who successfully audition are expected to attend the festival..
  • Students must attend all rehearsals for the full rehearsal time and the concert.  If not they will lose their all state rec. and be banned from auditioning next year. The only exception is a medical emergency accompanied by a doctor’s note.
  • Students must not drive themselves to or from the rehearsals or performances; violation of this rule will result in immediate dismissal from the festival and loss of an all-state rec.
  • Students must adequately prepare their festival music.
  • Students must be chaperoned by an authorized school staff member or principal-authorized adult.
  • Students are not allowed to use tobacco, drugs, alcohol, vaping etc.
  • Students may be removed from the festival for poor behavior or violation of any above rules & regulations.
  • Any vandalism or lack of care to facilities or other individual’s property will result in dismissal from the Festival.
