Music Educators will spend the day engaged in conducting workshops with Dr. Peter Boonshaft, who is regarded as “one of the most exciting and exhilarating voices in music education today.” Dr. Boonshaft is the author of the critically acclaimed best-selling books Teaching Music with Passion, Teaching Music with Purpose, and Teaching Music with Promise. One of the most highly sought-after conductors and clinicians in the country, Dr. Boonshaft is Professor Emeritus of Music at Hofstra University.
Participants will need to bring an instrument to the workshop and perform in the clinic ensemble under Dr. Boonshaft’s direction as he models effective conducting techniques and rehearsal skills. Participants will also be invited to take the podium to conduct selected works and receive real-time feedback and suggestions from Dr. Boonshaft. Educators should leave the workshop with ideas to make their conducting and rehearsal techniques more effective and better able to connect students to the music that they engage with in our classrooms.
Participants who complete a written reflection after the workshop will be eligible to receive a certificate for 8 professional development hours. There is a chance to observe festival rehearsals at District or All State to combine those hours with this workshop, which can turn this into a 10 PDP certificate.
