Vocal Sight Reading Guidelines

For
SENIOR
District:
Sight reading:
- will be in the key of the piece
- will start and end on the tonic
- will include all pitches of the diatonic
scale as they fit the range of the voice part
- will include steps and intervals of a
third
- could include whole, half, quarter and eighth
notes, including rests and dotted rhythms
- Bass sight-reading is in bass
clef.
For
JUNIOR
District:
Sight reading:
- will be in the key of the piece.
- will start and end on the tonic
- will include the first 5 ptiches of the
diatonic scale (do, re, me, fa, so) as they fit the range of
the voice part
- will be stepwise motion
- will include half, quarter and eighth note
rhythms.
- Bass sight-reading is in bass clef
